my trips to boston and philadelphia

i had good times in boston even though hayward refused to meet up. and then i had the misfortune to encounter a certain bearded union enforcer in philadelphia. i completely failed to recognize frank when he picked me up at the airport. his is a truly frightening countenance - though he did a remarkably good job driving me home except for his car almost dying. i can only wonder what my other friend in philly - hilary - must have thought of this ruffian. hilary = exceedingly polite, proper, and preppy - but a good person nonetheless. i don't think she appreciated mr fucile's constant class war mongering.

in family law today: a man received oral sex from his then wife. she kept the sperm without him knowing. they split up. he found out about the sperm and demanded it back. it turns out that sperm is not property - and even if it were - and this is the best part: he couldn't get it back because - it was a gift.

cue me trying not to laugh for the rest of class imagining boromir as the judge: "it is A GIFT"

and Mr. Irgens left eternal footprints in Chinatown.
awkward, smeary prints of feet.

it is still verifiably untrue that "Philadelphia is a small city."
there are massive urban wastelands outside the safe/white/downtown Center City.
there was some great line in the CityPaper that described this well.
something like CENTER CITY IS AN ISLAND OF CIVILIZATION SURROUNDED BY A ROTTING DONUT OF PUTRESCENCE THAT SEPARATES IT FROM THE SUBURBS. A MASSIVE ROTTING DONUT THAT YUPPIES WOULD RATHER IGNORE.
well, maybe they didn't say that exactly.
but i figured someone would appreciate the mixed island/rotting donut metaphor.
